Our minds gone apolitical
bored with analytical
views blindly hypocritical
of restraint inimical

On entertainment insistent
in narcissistic nation
turned Reality resistant
in misguided elation

Are we not head-over-heels
raiding the cash machine
in gilded automobiles
en route to guillotine?

But in these gadget-gathering times heady
we must surely have lost our heads already?

Down blind alleys
in another fray
Same old sallies
just another day

On craven path
indulged, too well fed
while growing wrath
rages heart & head

If ain’t effete
scurrying eyes down
on tender feet
with self-absorbed frown?

Is life really worth living
if of self we’re too forgiving?

Arms faded & scrawny
flabby our middle
Many years since brawny
now mostly twiddle

Life has turned middling riddle
shows on faces craggy
screeches like mistuned fiddle
in melody draggy

On downward trajectory
our course & cause abstruse
Where’s a clear directory
for those of us obtuse?

+)
-abstruse = difficult to understand; obscure
-middling = run-of-the-mill
-obtuse = lacking in insight or discernment

He hid out in life
fearful of all strife

Engrossed amply, had a ball
dinked around without clues
lead no worthwhile life at all
thought Life here to amuse

Then rosy hued vigor drained
he veered off course, pace dropped
a purpose no longer feigned
Pretense gone. Thank God, flopped

Then bestowed a second chance
to pull his weight, not just prance

What if we’re just like worms
in their dark bin’s murky muck
each crawls, wiggles & squirms
bragging of their own great pluck!

What says that humans know more
about the Great Unknown?
What may we claim on that score
as Creation’s Capstone?

Never mind how much we boast and grin
don’t we botch it in our ‘brighter bin’?

+)
-‘brighter bin’ = here: planet Earth
-capstone = crowning achievement (o yeah?)

Why must I be bored daily
told sports metaphors frail
celebrity quotes gaily
and commercial quips pale?

How does the majority
sunk in deep nescience
think they’ve the authority
to demand compliance

with their endless tedious prattle
spouting threadbare cliches & tattle?

+)
-nescience = ignorance, lack of knowledge or awareness

Feeble verse he nurses
mostly with reverses
Claims he just converses
though rants & curses

Corny comedy
splotched crotchety
Tearless tragedy
turns travesty

Hence his stilted blather
shows no dreams or sense
Foamy stanzas lather
puffed up in pretense

Watch him how he digresses
while verbiage accrues
He prattles & perplexes
swerves through ‘fast verse’ drive-thrus

All with purloined blustering
sputtering & blundering

Do we barely spare a glance
to Spring’s tender flower
while reaching enraptured trance
when we online cower?

To seek peace in single pursuit
persevered for its own end
(be it heartrendingly minute)
ain’t that when we may transcend?

Yes, and a fair chance while flowers we’re smelling
while squinting online a case less compelling!

Just hung on the tree
did a green leaf
seemed happy & free
beyond ‘beleaf’

Was ‘leafing it up’
just blowing in the wind
brimming its life’s cup
in sunlight widely grinned

Then from clear sky a tear
fell on its body, wet splash
happiness turned to fear
by a single raindrop brash!

That’s where it went awry
so there goes the ‘treeborhood’
To Heavens it would cry:
there goes my good ‘leaflihood’!

So goes the whining of the leaf-alarmist
in a too lightly triggered, poor me ‘valse triste’

Multitudes eagerly eat it
though there can be no fakin’
While some try make it appear fit
here’s the truth about bacon:

Poor hogs maligned
horribly treated
tightly confined
callously slaughtered

Billions gallons of feces piling
bucolic surroundings defiling

In actuality
it’s raw brutality
leering lethality
lacking morality

Your breakfast’s ‘burnt pork’ fuel
(sizzling fat thought tasty)
was ‘raised’ in manner cruel
Conscience clear or pasty?

Hogs of decent life been cheated
due human palate conceited
