Hooked on voraciously soul sucking screens
in their eerie sheen ubiquitous
Been had by corporate marketing schemes
To celeb culture obsequious

No flirtation. Hit hard on
by forces hellacious
in consumer-tech’s brash con
its pursuits vexatious

Our culture predaceous, duplicitous
a future crashing in crassitude
in a society iniquitous
we languish feebly in lassitude

Been trading snug solidarity
for barbed & smug insularity

+)
-crassitude = the lacking in sensitivity, discrimination or sensibility
-lassitude = weakness characterized by a lack of interest, vitality or energy

His pompous, facile verbiage soars
while lying through his gleaming teeth
The figurehead lets us down while scores
his Beltway knife loosened in sheath

His faux ‘Change You Can Believe In’ brand
once seductive consumer pitch
now shown up as empty, stale & bland
still serves the powerful & rich

A President so crisp & elegant
coolly projects noble sentiments
but were his soaring speeches eloquent
helpful for those in drab tenements?

One shameless, specious scheme of bait & switch:
Saying versus doing without a glitch

+)
-‘Change You Can Believe In’ = Obama
-The Beltway = metaphor (from it’s D.C. locus) for the Power Elite

Parents: If you teach your kids to be on time then you’re condemning them to a lifetime of waiting for others.

Says a Neighborhood Gangster:
“Nice little BUSINESS you got here
would be a shame if something should happen to it!”

Similarily says an Imperial President:
“Nice little COUNTRY you got there
would be a shame if something should happen to it!”

My days in my old age are flashing by ever faster. At this rate I fear that soon shall the day come when I don’t get enough time to finish my morning coffee before it’s time to retire again.

The longevity of my life does not determine the fullness of this very day.

He spent his first 60 years terrified of Life. Now he’s terrified of
Death. Nice ride.

Declaring anyone intelligent (or not) involves the astonishing
presumption that I am intelligent enough to make such a call.

Who knows, the early worm may one day trip the bird?

There may to be two types of personalities: One fears asking for too
much. The other fears not having asked enough.

When everything is said and done a good deal more is often said
than done.

Voluntary restraint: The cookie refrained from tastes better than the
one indulged.

From the deep dark hole of ignorance we cannot expect to see how the
abundant rays of knowledge bathe the landscape.

While the teller of truth is ignored there is always someone willing to tell us the lie we do want to hear.

Please do not knock mediocrity. I have striven to pull myself up to that level all my life.

It is not being an underachiever that worries me. It is rather looking
like one while actually performing at my highest level.

My competitive wife reads the obituaries daily. Is it that she wants to
check out whom she has outlasted?

As a failure I am a resounding success.

In the Winter of my Life I cannot do one single thing simultaneously.

Teach your child to be punctual and she’ll spend her life waiting
for others.

In today’s media culture no matter is so insignificant or peripheral that it cannot be blown up to a major one.

In today’s consumer culture no incident is so small that a consumer cannot
turn it into a huge complaint.
I dagens samhälle är ingen händelse så ringa att vår konsument inte kan blåsa upp den till ett stort klagomål

It seems that ‘exploitation’ and ‘fairness’ no longer exist per se. If I
don’t like my situation then they are used as arguments for change. If
pleased with my situation I don’t want to talk about it.

There is much to be said in favor of ineffability (that which cannot be
expressed in words).

You say you have nothing to say? I’ll gladly take your word for it! No need to go on babbling to fully prove it.

Leif Erikson discovered America but he was wise, said nothing,
and let that Italian take the blame for it.

None of us are perfect until we realize & accept that others are not.

There’s the state flower and state bird. There’s the poster child. With
deep sadness I nominate as emblematic for our society at large:
The Leaf Blower.
Here is why: It is highly polluting, smelly, noisy, intrusive
costly, and complicated compared to what it replaces (yes, that would be the rake). Above all it encourages ’solving’ a problem by blowing it elsewhere.

Autumn weather arrived no later than usual despite his delay in bringing the garden furniture indoors.

Experiencing life as unpredictable may largely be due to one’s own
rigidity.

“Those who ignore history are bound to repeat it”. We should be so lucky
to settle for repeating it. As things are going these we cannot hope to do
remotely that ‘well’.

A ‘smartphonie’ or ‘smartphonista’ = someone who traded his or her pacifier, a gateway drug, for a smartphone.

“All is not lost”, declared the person, who had put on a few pounds.

A thousand Life missteps began with a single journey.

Were Hitler to return he’d find himself comparatively well liked. How so? Because during his absence foreign leaders have been labeled, particularly by American ‘regime change’ propaganda, as ‘worse than Hitler’.

‘Penguinity’ = the endearing inclination to believe in a swift take-off – even after in perpetuity having frantically been flapping one’s wings and still found oneself stuck on the ground.

If we hurry on short cuts we may never travel Life’s scenic routes.

We rush around to save time, which is then squandered by rushing around some more.

Some among us may prefer, although we shall of course protest indignantly if so confronted, delusional politicians, greedy bankers, predatory corporations et al because they give us cover to similarly carry on in our own lives.

Who’s talking ? The cell phone frenzy, including the proliferation of use of ear plugs and head sets, has allowed me to now walk down the street talking to myself without anyone giving me strange looks or even paying attention. It has arrived: Normality through Technology.

Figuring what Life asks is tough. Easier just to ask for stuff!

Life is hazardous to our health. Stop whining.

The fewer the words the clearer the message. Hopefully that’s why
some of my verse turns tighter until they become epigrams.

Better a bullet in one’s heart advancing than shot in one’s rear part while fleeing!

Someone ‘smarter’ than I may still be very stupid.

“Driving electric cars?! But what shall we do with all the gasoline?” – Aunt Dorothy

Judging from how intently Joyce immerses herself in her Sunday paper’s obits
she seems more diligent reading about the dead than listening to the living.

Throughout history we have heard that some times “The situation is desperate but not hopeless”. With all that us humans are facing these day would rather suggest that ‘The situation is hopeless but needs not be desperate’ as far as our attempting to live worthwhile personal lives.

Grant me being smart enough to realize when I’m stupid!!

Yes, Trump did drain ‘The Swamp’. But he replaced them with people which made us wish the old ones back.

The globalized economy rumbling
crushing many a society
while Humanity’s habitat crumbling
in existential anxiety

Inequality as polity
conspired by the Power Elite
In gated, yachted frivolity:
the ever ‘rent seeking’ Wall Street

Thus condemned to existence hollow 9
why do People just meekly follow?

Is it the Elite’s confident stare
fashionable dress, wealth & gall
their scripted chatter, freshly blown hair
that subjugates us in their thrall?

Or rather this: What could more endear
than those lies we so eagerly hear?

Thus the teller of the truth is doomed
as we cannot handle getting informed
We are the Automatons well groomed
to just pretending ‘happy unconcerned!’

+)
-‘rent seeking’ = (economics) activities which do not create societal worth, just redistribute existing resources

Sarah’s shy smile, so blithe
dark full hair flowing
her bird wing like limbs lithe
cherry cheeks glowing

This tender gentle flower
unwavering brown eyes
She’s the youthful avower
in awe of clouds in skies

While she indulges distraction
she prefers to endeavor
Well centered in her own action
finds own focus whenever

She’s the constant artist
in wondrous joy prolific
Might be the book smartest

A day forever gone fades
did we live fully, well
not merely in its calm shades?
At peace when sounds day’s knell?

Fine on this day’s gallop we felt thrilled
but were our furrows straight, deeply tilled?

Were we too absorbed to allay
to show heart for others’ plight?
Did we ponder in the day’s fray
on mistakes to feel contrite?

Are we alighted fulfilled
that our hearts may now rest stilled?

We keep cavorting, gushing
why should anyone blush?
Over obstacles rushing
evading Death’s near brush

Time is such a rigid knave
flows without adjournment
Continuity’s mere slave
knows not of discernment

“Saving time through efficiency
watch me, watch me, always I’m!”
Then wasted in proficiency
by rush to save yet more time

Thence such time by rushing saved
gets squandered & wasted
The still moment rarely craved
though sensed but not tasted …

An insightful article on the Obama phenomena:
http://www.tomdispatch.com/blog/175816/
inspired this verse:

Unfounded self confidence
in pompous presumption
pretending at omniscience
while shows up compunction

His baritone oratory:
Delivery alluring
while hollow declaratory
doesn’t come across assuring

Stands with those on Wall Street
against the pitchforks
His White House found effete
fast fizzled fireworks

His bringing us cool pure fantasy
in hollow cowardly drama
“Change You Can Believe In” alchemy
darkly deepens nation’s trauma

How did we turn so immobile
erstwhile engaged citizens
indulging pursuits puerile
with baffling indifference?

Bowled over by his locomotion
hawking his brand of self-promotion?

+)
-‘change you can believe in’ = Obama’s election campaign slogan
-citizen = there can be no democracy without informed & engaged citizens
-compunction = uneasiness or hesitation about the rightness of an action
-pitchforks = I’m the only thing between you and the pitchforks”, the President told a gathering of big bank CEOs on April 3, 2009:
